Glenn Hoddle shared stories from his prolific, 40-year career in football during an intimate, charity event at The Hilton Bournemouth.
The former Spurs star, England international and England manager, appeared in An Evening With Glenn Hoddle, A World Cup Sportsman’s Dinner, on Thursday 31st May 2018.
The sold-out event was sponsored by 1st Waste Management Consultants of Bournemouth and raised funds for Dorset Cancer Care Foundation (DCCF), a local charity which gives financial assistance to Dorset residents with cancer.
Hoddle, 60, entertained the audience with tales from his career with Tottenham Hotspur, the club he joined as a junior at 12 and was offered an apprenticeship with aged 17.
During 1979–80, the then 22-year-old midfielder scored 19 goals in 41 league appearances for Spurs and won the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
Hoddle also shared anecdotes from his prolific international career – as well as his unwitting foray into the world of pop music with the single Diamond Lights in 1987 – and his sometimes tumultuous years as a manager with Swindon Town, Chelsea, Southampton and England.
Eve Went, one of the founders of Dorset Cancer Care Foundation (DCCF), said: “Glenn is a fascinating and charming man and was genuinely interested in the work we do to help local people cope with the financial pressures cancer can bring.
“We are extremely thankful to him, the ‘An Evening with…team, JLD Bespoke Events and 1st Waste Management Consultants for supporting DCCF through this wonderful event.”

Tribeca Events in partnership with ‘An Evening With’ are very proud to be present an evening to celebrate the launch of the 2018 World Cup with footballing legend, and former England manager, Glenn Hoddle.
We are very excited Glenn has agreed to join us for a great night at The Hilton Hotel Ballroom, helping to raise funds for Dorset Cancer Care Foundation.
One of the greatest players in English footballing history, Glenn came through the youth ranks at Tottenham Hotspur to make 490 appearances in all competitions between 1975-1987, placing him fifth in the all-time appearance list. He also scored 110 goals in that time.
Glenn is one of the most gifted players of his generation, helping Tottenham win the FA Cup in 1981 and 1982 – he scored in both the initial final and the winner in the replay against QPR in 1982 – and the UEFA Cup in 1984, although he was injured for the final against Anderlecht. Glenn later returned to the Lane to manage the team between 2001-03 and also managed England, Swindon, Chelsea, Southampton and Wolves.
There were so many magic moments in Glenn’s career, and you can join us for this very rare and special appearance from the man himself.
The evening is hosted by comedians Scott Charlton & David Fitzgerald, who will be questioning Glenn on England’s up coming chances in the 2018 World Cup, whilst relaying old stories of a fantastic career in the beautiful game.
